peter headed to belgium with the ring in his pocket...
As most of you know, in October 2021, Kirsten packed up and headed to Antwerp, Belgium to pursue her dream of continuing her dance career overseas. This was both an exhilarating time filled with adventure, as well as a harsh adjustment to living a life without Peter by her side. Peter continued his professional course in Vancouver - adjusting alongside to the tricky business of managing time zones and dates via FaceTime and messaging. Their plans to reunite for the holidays in Belgium that year were on the horizon, and little did Kirsten know that Peter had been gathering together some very meaningful family materials for his next creative venture - a handmade vintage style engagement ring with heirlooms from both the Wicklund & Smida families.
Upon a nervous arrival and barely making it out of Canada before another Covid lockdown, Peter showed up, ring in hand, and could barely wait to pop the question. A stroll around the port area of Antwerp that night in December with a pit-stop at a waterside bench and it was a done deal. Celebrations and FaceTime calls with family and friends came next and wedding plans have been slowly but steadily in progress ever since.
Plans to marry in July 2023 felt possible - even with both of them having such demanding work lives. Back and forth travel between Belgium and Canada remains a reality, however, they look forward to calling one of these places a more permanent together home soon after the wedding.
Peter and Kirsten are extremely excited for this new phase of life together, as they build a family and remain open to the incredible possibilities inside of their personal and professional endeavours - side by side. They are delighted to include their nearest and dearest in an intimate celebration of their love and commitment that holds no bounds and reaches well across the ocean…
They can’t wait to have you witness them in marriage (either at the intimate in-person gathering, or via Zoom) on July 22, 2023.
